Building the Tech
EngageAfricaNLP (https://engageafricanlp.com) is a program created by Localizzz Africa (https://localizzzafrica.com) and managed by Chantal Kamgne, that aims to harness the expertise of language experts, native speakers, translators, data collectors and technologists to develop tools and applications focusing on low-resourced, underrepresented African languages, with an initial focus on Cameroonian languages.
By engaging contributors in interactive data collection tasks through our data collection app (text and speech), we are compiling datasets that will form the foundation for technological developments.
This approach not only accelerates data collection but also ensures the inclusivity and authenticity of the linguistic information gathered.
The app currently serves as a data collection platform and we have started collecting data in Cameroonian languages such as Ghɔmálá’, Fulfulde, Ewondo, Duala, Bassa’a, Bulu, Fe’fe’, Medumba, Yemba, Bamum, Pinyin, Ngiemboon, Meta’, Nso’, Cameroon Pidgin, Camfranglais and more.
Collect Linguistic Data for YOUR Project
The Engage Africa NLP app is now available and able to collect text and speech data.
Please get in touch with us if you would like to use it to work on your data collection projet for text-to-text, text-to-speech or any combination of parallel data. The app is free to use but you will need our help to extract the data collected and provide them to you. We do this at no cost for projects aimed at reviving low-resourced languages.
